On Saturday, November 14th they will be hosting a community work day to assemble a greenhouse to support the work of the Learning Garden. This program has evolved into a year-round venture and they are ready to take it to the next level. This community event is open to all families, faculty, and staff. They enjoy great support from their community newspaper and hope to capture the aspects of farming the garden and preparing, serving, and eating food from the garden as a means of awakening the senses and encouraging awareness and appreciation of the transformative values of nourishment, community, and stewardship of the land. They are currently serving forty children in the program but are hoping to expand it to serve more. Missouri PTA is proud to announce that the Southern Boone PTA is a winner of one of National PTA's Healthy Lifestyles Grants. In September 2009 the Southern Boone PTA officially adopted the SoBoCo Learning Garden as one of its core programs. They believe that this program has the ability to change their community – to change their children and enrich the lives of those it touches.
