In the past two weeks the City of Kansas City adopted Resolution #100446.  This Resolution allocates supplemental funds for neighborhood level improvements.  In order to get improvement projects underway by this fall, Kansas City has instituted a pilot program to fast track these funds.   The City is seeking community impute to pinpoint areas in neighborhoods around the city that would quality for this program.  Some of the projects that would fall under the realm of the improvement plan would be sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic signals.  Currently there are many neighborhood schools in the Kansas City area that would greatly benefit from city infrastructure improvements.  However, the deadline to apply for inclusion in the pilot program is June 23, 2010.

Looking at neighborhoods around your own schools, what areas do you see need improvement.  This is an opportunity to address and hopefully correct existing problems hindering a safe environment in the areas around our schools.   The application is available online at www.kcmo.org.  Remember the deadline is fast approaching.  We need to act now.

During Missouri PTA’s June Board Meeting the board adopted the position statement Improved Infrastructure Around Schools.  By adopting this position Missouri PTA supports city government efforts to work with the schools, parents and the community in seeking ways to improve the infrastructure around schools.
