Million Hours of Power Campaign
Today's changing family structure calls for more dads and father figures to become involved in the life of a child. To engage more men we have developed the "Million Hours of Power -- Give a Little, Change a Lot!" It's a campaign to inspire men throughout America to collectively dedicate at least one million hours of service to the health, education, and well-being of America's youth during a single school year.
Our partners for the campaign include the National Fatherhood Leaders Group and members of PTA MORE (Men Organized to Raise Engagement) who are on a mission to get men around the country to get more men involved and produce more positive outcomes for children.
Our goal is 350,000 men, each volunteering three hours of service to produce more than one million hours of volunteer service to America's children during the 2010-2011 school year. The children they serve may be their own or those of their extended family and community.
Here's how to log your volunteer hours:
Volunteers who want to log their hours toward PTA's Million Hours of Power Initiative can go to the Million Hours of Power surveyhosted by the National Center for Fathering. For more information, go to PTA.org/millionhours.

Reflections Winners Featured at National PTA Convention
Each year, the National PTA Convention highlights the talents of PTA Reflections participants. Pictured at right are the presentations of the 2009-2010 national Outstanding Interpretation Award recipients in Dance Choreography, Musical Composition, and Visual Arts during the 2010 convention, held this past June in Memphis, Tennessee. The recipients in Photography and Literature also shared their winning pieces. Earlier in the day, several student musicians performed at the convention's annual Arts in Education Luncheon.
The 2009-2010 program year marked the 40th anniversary of PTA Reflections.

PTA Take Your Family to School Week 2011 -- and the $1897 Awards
Put it on your calendar: PTA Take Your Family to School Week is February 13-19, 2011. Encourage your units to partner with schools and engage parents in their children's education during this special week.
Local PTAs planning events for Take Your Family to School Week 2011 are invited to apply for the $1897 Awards. The application (and updated resources) will be available online mid-September. Applications will be due Friday, November 5, 2010.
Information about the week should arrive in units' mailboxes late September/early October. Open the mailer all the way for a brand-new poster to share with families about the value of their involvement.
Be part of this year's celebration! |
